POSITION DESCRIPTION
Position: General Manager (GM)
Reports to: Vice President, Sourcing and Operations
Overview
This position is responsible for maximizing profitability by overseeing sales, marketing, operations,
and human resources. This person directly manages customer service, operations and sales teams
and implements and carries out strategic plans from senior level management.
Responsibilities
• Generate market growth and profitability and tap into new opportunities.
• Be actively involved with key accounts and site sales management.
• Implement marketing plans and advertising programs at the site level.
• Ensure proper market position and utilize management of pricing tools.
• Partner with executive team recruiting, training, succession planning and other areas of
employee development.
• Monitor and deploy sales/service resources to ensure superior customer service throughout
all product areas.
• Monitor and evaluate customer satisfaction and manage a process of continuous
improvement in site customer service.
• Direct and monitor inventory control processes (cycle counts) to meet inventory turn goals
and minimize scrappage and waste.
• Ensure a smooth and effective site production process, superior product maintenance, and
implementation of site merchandising.
• Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and policies.
Requirements
• BS degree in Horticulture or related field, and in depth knowledge of the
horticulture industry and products.
• 6-8 years of hands-on management experience with proven leadership skills.
• Experience in managing production, maintenance and service resources in an operational
environment.
• Experience developing, training and motivating sales and operational teams.
• Excellent organizational ability, a high degree of initiative, excellent communication skills
and a team orientation.
• Ability to utilize remote resources (purchasing, credit, accounting, human resources) in an
effective manner to achieve site goals.
• Solid knowledge and experience with profit-and-loss (P&L) and financial statements as well
as inventory management.
• Bilingual abilities (English/Spanish) a plus.
